Holidays
Congregation Beth Israel follows the Israeli calendar with regard to holiday observances. In practical terms, this means seven (not eight) days of Sukkot are observed, with Simchat Torah and Shemini Atzeret coinciding on the eighth day, Pesach for seven (not eight) days, and Shavuot for one (not two) days. Because of the contrast between the Israeli calendar and the traditional diaspora calendar, during some years, the two will be out of sync by one week with regard to Torah readings on some Shabbatot.
