Senior Connections: Torah Study (On Zoom)

Tuesday, May 19, 2020 25 Iyar 5780

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

"Why is memory so important in Judaism? Or is it?" (led by Russ Linden)

This session will focus on the role that memory plays in Judaism. There are several places in the Torah where memory plays a key role:

  • remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy
  • remember to tell our children the Exodus story
  • that God remembered Sarah (that she was barren)
  • God heard the Israelites' groaning in Egypt, and remembered the covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

We'll discuss questions such as: Why is memory mentioned so often in the Torah? Are there any downsides to our people's emphasis on memory? What role does memory play for us in our daily lives? The Torah also tells us to remember how Amalek attacked the Israelites in the desert, and then instructs us to "obliterate the memory of Amalek." Are there some things we should be forgetting?

ALL are welcome and invited. Sponsored by CBI Senior Connections. Please find the Zoom meeting details in this week's e-announcements!
