Mission Statement

CBI's early childhood program provides an opportunity for young children to play, learn and grow together in a Jewish environment. It fosters developmental growth and strengthens Jewish values and practice in young children and their families through rich and meaningful educational experiences in a secure, nurturing and stimulating setting.

The early childhood program supports and contributes to Congregation Beth Israel's mission of building and enhancing the Charlottesville-area Jewish community.

Educational Philosophy

Early childhood experiences provide the foundation for a child's lifetime. Early Jewish childhood education supports and enhances Jewish living in the home, in our congregation and in our community. CBI operates a preschool as part of its program of early childhood education. Preschool teachers are knowledgeable and skilled in child development and Jewish education, and participate in ongoing professional development. CBI Preschool offers an opportunity for young children to play, learn and grow together in a Jewish environment.

CBI Preschool supports the growth of young children through a developmental, play-based curriculum which recognizes and addresses the individual growth and needs (social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive) of students and creates opportunities to allow each child to grow at his or her own pace.
