Social Action Committee
(also look at the Tzedakah Committee for other social action work)The Social Action Committee is organizing opportunities for Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) through service and advocacy. We are involved in a number of projects which help make the world a place of social justice and dignity. Some are small steps while others take a greater commitment. Please help change the world, one mitzvah at a time. Join in fulfilling the Jewish idea of Gemilat Hasidim (deed of loving kindness). Contact Fran Feigert (244-3727) to become a part of any project.
Collection of the Month
- April: SHE is having a shower.
The Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE) has worked to alter the pattern of domestic violence since 1979. The program provides a crisis hotline, court advocacy, emergency shelter, counseling, and referrals for victims of domestic abuse. They also provide information, resources speakers, and support throughout our regions.
Thanks to generous donations from the entire community a beautiful new facility will open its doors to the victims of domestic violence and abuse in Charlottesville and five surrounding counties, providing the only such safe haven between Richmond and Staunton.
You can help SHE by "Showering the Shelter" with essential items making the new house into a home. It's easy to help - SHE has registered for items on gift registries at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and JCPenney. Just purchase a requested item (or two!) and bring it to the labeled collection bin in the main lobby.
