United Jewish Fund for Charlottesville
The United Jewish Fund of Charlottesville ("UJFC"), is happy to announce the availability of a limited number of summer camp scholarships to Jewish camps for the summer of 2008. Through these camp scholarships, the UJFC is pleased to be able to promote Jewish education and the building of positive Jewish identity by supporting Jewish summer camp experiences.
Families of children in grades k-11 who would like a scholarship to attend an overnight Jewish camp, should submit an application directly to the UJFC by February 29, 2008. Applications may be obtained by calling the Congregation Beth Israel office (434-295-6382) or on-line. A portion of the scholarship fund has been set aside for day camp scholarships to Camp CBI. Families interested in scholarships for Camp CBI should apply directly to the camp by contacting Shelby Apple, Camp CBI Director.
The United Jewish Fund for Charlottesville (UJFC) has adopted a pre-school center in Lod to help Israeli Ethiopian children prepare for school. In the last two years the UJFC directed our UJC support to the Parents and Children Together (PACT) program that provides children of Ethiopian-Israelis with extended pre-school preparation, and their mothers with guidance on pre-natal care and parenting skills in modern society.
This is a critical support that helps these children and their parents adapt and thrive in modern Israeli society. Based on the generous support of the Charlottesville Jewish community, the UJC cost shared our UJC allocation. Thanks to you we now can support an entire center in Givat Hazeitim in Lod.
In gratitude, children in that center sent us their greetings below. For more information about this program and the UJFC contact Gaby Laufer.
